How Z-Plane Morphing Works
Morpheus organizes its 14-pole filters into Cubes, then lets you move freely through the space they define. Understanding the Cube makes the controls intuitive.
The Cube. Each of Morpheus's 280-plus filter configurations is a Cube: up to 8 complex 14-pole filters arranged at the corners of a three-dimensional space. Rather than selecting one fixed filter, you choose a point anywhere inside the Cube, and Morpheus smoothly interpolates between the surrounding corner filters to produce the resulting response.
Three dimensions, in real time. The three axes of the Cube are Frequency, Morphing and Transformation. The original E-mu Morpheus could morph only one dimension in real time; the frequency and transform dimensions were fixed at note-on. The Morpheus module removes that limit: all three dimensions are under simultaneous manual and CV control, so the entire response can evolve dynamically as a sound plays. In stereo.
Capturing and sequencing. You can save hundreds of your own customized filter configurations, and a built-in sequencer steps through configurations under trigger or clock control. A large OLED display handles programming and shows the morphing in real time, and, like all Rossum digital modules, every parameter is one button press away, with no menu diving.
